Bachos is a place for thoughtful, respectful discussion of Orthodox faith and life. These guidelines help keep it that way.
“Believing all things, hoping all things” (1 Cor 13:7). Assume the best of those you disagree with. Their question or argument may not be what you first think it is.
You can challenge a position vigorously while honoring the person who holds it. Personal attacks, mockery, or dismissiveness end conversations.
Strong claims need support. Quote scripture, cite patristic writings, link to articles. Saying “the church teaches X” without sources invites distrust.
Many users post anonymously to ask hard questions safely. That is good. But anonymity doesn't shield bad-faith behavior. Moderators see the underlying account.
Topics like feminism, theism vs atheism, gender, sexuality, and contemporary culture vs tradition can wound easily. Before posting in a Hot Topics thread, you'll be asked to acknowledge these guidelines once.
Moderators have discretion to close threads, delete posts, or warn users. We aim to be transparent — most actions are logged. If you disagree with an action, you can appeal a ban.
Some users are verified clergy, scholars, or theologians. Their badges signal expertise but not infallibility. Engage them with the respect their role merits, but feel free to question and learn.
