Bachos is a place for thoughtful, respectful discussion of Christian faith and life. Christians, Muslims, atheists, people of other faiths, and people still exploring are welcome to ask, listen, and contribute. You don't have to believe to ask.
Our editorial perspective is Oriental Orthodox Christianity. You do not need to be Orthodox, Christian, or certain about your beliefs to participate. Honest doubt, respectful criticism, and questions from other traditions belong here. We explain our convictions without requiring visitors to agree with them.
When traditions differ, identify the perspective you are describing and distinguish shared Christian beliefs from a particular church's teaching. Do not present a specifically Orthodox position as something all Christians agree on. Critique an argument without attacking someone's religion, ethnicity, nationality, or identity.
Do not assume someone's beliefs from their name or background. Describe other religions and nonreligious views in terms their adherents would recognize, cite their own sources where possible, and acknowledge what you don't know. We offer a Christian perspective; we do not speak on behalf of other faiths or worldviews.
Share convictions openly, but do not pressure someone to convert, demand that they declare their beliefs, or repeatedly contact them after they have asked you to stop. Respectful doubt and disagreement are not misconduct. A sincere question can be challenging without being hostile.
“Believing all things, hoping all things” (1 Cor 13:7). Assume the best of those you disagree with. Their question or argument may not be what you first think it is.
You can challenge a position vigorously while honoring the person who holds it. Personal attacks, mockery, or dismissiveness end conversations.
Strong claims need support. Quote scripture, cite patristic writings, link to articles. Distinguish doctrinal teaching, historical evidence, and personal reflection. Saying “the church teaches X” without sources invites distrust.
Many users post anonymously to ask hard questions safely. That is good. But anonymity doesn't shield bad-faith behavior. Moderators see the underlying account.
Topics like feminism, theism vs atheism, gender, sexuality, and contemporary culture vs tradition can wound easily. Before posting in a Hot Topics thread, you'll be asked to acknowledge these guidelines once.
Moderation addresses conduct, spam, privacy violations, and relevance; disagreement with our tradition is not by itself a reason for removal. Do not share another person's private identity or contact details without their consent. Report abuse instead of retaliating.
Moderators have discretion to close threads, delete posts, or warn users. We aim to be transparent — most actions are logged. If you disagree with an action, you can appeal a ban.
Some users are verified clergy, scholars, or theologians. Their badges signal expertise but not infallibility. Engage them with the respect their role merits, but feel free to question and learn.
